KOKUYO Calendar "A string of Beautiful Days"

Art.nr:
A String of Beautiful Days is a distinctive paper calendar with embroidered numbers that slowly disappears, just like the days themselves. Each number is embroidered with a single continuous thread. Pulling it gently unravels the day and makes room for the next. A simple gesture that turns an everyday routine into a small, mindful ritual. The calendar is a poetic and innovative concept. It embodies the Japanese appreciation of impermanence – "the beauty of flowers lies in their petals falling". The thread changes colour every two months, creating a gentle visual rhythm throughout the year. It makes an ideal design gift or a quiet companion for a study, studio or peaceful corner, helping to organise time while also inviting you to pause and reflect. Dimensions: 39 × 15.5 cm Format: 12 sheets (one for each month) Material: high-quality Japanese washi paper, continuous embroidery thread A rhythm of colours – the thread colour changes every 2 months Poetic minimalism – a new way to experience the passage of time Precise embroidery technique: loop embroidery (single-thread embroidery) The story behind the design: The concept began as a competition entry in 2015 and was originally handmade. The first prototype was embroidered by its creator, Mio Ueda, together with her classmates. The judges were captivated by how smoothly the thread unravelled and the powerful poetic effect of the gesture. Turning the idea into a product was challenging: a machine process had to be found that could replicate hand stitching. It was only the discovery of loop embroidery that made it possible to create embroidery with a single upper thread that could be pulled out easily. The result is a calendar combining modern design, traditional craftsmanship and the profound Japanese appreciation of impermanence. Made in Japan
